The Sun steals comets from other stars

November 23, 2010:? The next time you delight at the sight of a Comet, blazing across the night sky, consider this: it is a pleasure stolen. You are the spectacle to a distant star enjoy.

Sophisticated computer simulations run by researchers at the Southwest Research Institute (SWRI) have suspended the crime.

"If the results are right, our Sun comets from the neighbouring stars back yard, torn away from" SWRI says scientist HAL Levison. And he believes that this type of thievery accounts for most comets in the Oort Cloud on the edge of our solar system.

"We know that stars rated in cluster form." The Sun was born in a large community of other stars, which formed in the same gas cloud. Near were the stars in this cluster birth pull enough together to comets from each other centre of gravity. It is how children play neighborhood in other back yards. "It not difficult to imagine it happened."

This model of "Thief" accompanied comets the next Star with the birth of cluster blowing apart. The Sun got with the right of a treasure - the Oort Cloud, which was with comets from anywhere on the rave "Neighborhood."

The Oort Cloud is a huge cloud of comets orbit the Sun beyond Pluto. It is named after century Dutch astronomer Jan Oort, first proposed as a cloud to explain, sometimes seen in the inner solar system to drop the origin of comets. Although no confirmed direct observations of the Oort Cloud have been made, most astronomers believe that it is the source of long-period and Halley type comets.

The standard model the Comet production claims that our Sun came honestly by the comet.

"This model says scum the formation of our solar system planets are the comets and that our planet gravity to huge distances, populate the cloud booted." "But we believe that this kind of scenario happened all solar systems, before the birth of cluster dispersed."

Otherwise Levison, says the numbers not only added.

"The standard model can not produce close to the number of comets, which we see [fall over the Oort Cloud]." "The Sun sibling stars rated some comets of the mixture had contributed to have."

Comets in the Oort Cloud are usually 1 or 2 Chuguu?ix? and they are so far away, appreciate that their number is not an easy task. But Levison and his team say that, based on observations that there is something like 400 billion comets. The "domestic" model of Comet formation can take account of a population of about 6 billion.

"This is a pretty anemic Oort Cloud, and a huge discrepancy - to giant explained by errors in the estimates." "There is no way that we could be so far away, so it must be something wrong with the model itself."

He references the Comet orbits as evidence.

These comets "are orbits that take them far away from our Sun, in remote regions of space in orbits very strange - very eccentric long period." So not it in orbit around the Sun could have been born. "You had to have made close to other stars and then here been kidnapped."

This means that Comet us not only about the early history of the Sun, but also about the history of other stars can say.

"We can study the orbits of comets and their chemistry in the context of where and to what star they made." It is interesting to think that we got some of our 'stuff' of distant stars. "We are kin."
